Voter Support

Results on Clapp for Community’s 2 1/2 override - Question #4 - on ELECTION DAY, NOVEMBER 4th  It passed by a vote of 4445 to 2953, over 60% of the vote!

We appreciate the support we’ve received from the people of Belchertown throughout the run-up to this election and now in the voting itself.  We think this vote shows that our community realizes how important the renovation and expansion of Clapp Memorial Library are to the future of the library and the Town.

Now that the debt exclusion for the Town’s share of the cost has been approved, we’ll press on with our work to make the project a reality.  We’ll continue our private fundraising to keep the requirement for Town funding to a minimum, and we’ll be working with Town officials to prepare for a future Town Meeting vote on Town funding for the project.  In the process, we’ll address the questions people have raised over the past few months, including the issue of future ownership of the library.  We hope to build as broad a consensus as possible in the community, so that all the people of Belchertown are proud of their library.
